TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – More than 70 children competed Saturday in the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run event at Four Oaks Park as the national skills competition returned to Tallahassee for the first time in 15 years.
The event gave kids ages 7 to 14 the opportunity to showcase their baseball and softball skills in pitching, hitting and running. Winners from each division will advance to compete against participants from across Florida for a chance to perform at a Tampa Bay Rays game and potentially earn a spot at the MLB World Series.
Cindy Mead, manager of operations for the City of Tallahassee’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department, said it was the kids’ dream come true.
“It gives kids a chance to compete, have fun, meet new friends and show off their skills,” Mead said. “It also gives them, for those who have skills and have been playing for a long time, a chance to compete and go to the next level.”

Among the eight winners was 8-year-old Jordyn Salaam, who said she was nervous before the competition began.
“I was scared at first, but then we started doing it, and I felt comfortable with it,” Salaam said.
The City of Tallahassee hosted the event with support from volunteers from Charlie Ward Champions Ranch.
The eight winners will advance to compete against top performers from across Florida for a chance to attend a Tampa Bay Rays game and potentially earn a spot in the MLB World Series.
