TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Hundreds of gallons of wastewater spilled in Tallahassee Friday evening, according to a report by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
The report says that from 6:25 p.m. to 7:58 p.m. on Friday, wastewater spilled from behind a home on 3187 Connie Drive. Crews were notified of the 500-gallon wastewater spill due to reports of an odor.
The FDEP report revealed that a “faulty manhole insert pan that lodged in the 8-inch gravity main” caused a blockage, which led to the spill.
The department also said the wastewater spilled into Lafayette Creek.

Cleanup for the untreated wastewater spill is reportedly completed as the obstruction was removed, flow was restored and 250 gallons were recovered. Crews cleaned, disinfected, and disposed of the area of debris, according to the report.
Water quality sampling was also taken and is ongoing. The Florida Department of Health was also notified of the incident.
