In preparation for the World Cup, England’s men’s national team played New Zealand in an international friendly Saturday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium.
England, ranked No. 4 in the FIFA men’s world rankings, shut out New Zealand, ranked 85th, 1-0. England forward Harry Kane (who else?) tallied the lone goal in the first half in front of 25,000-plus fans.

On Wednesday, England faces Costa Rica in another pre-World Cup match at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.
The World Cup kicks off Thursday, when Mexico takes on South Africa in Mexico City. The tournament, hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, will feature 48 teams competing across 104 matches for soccer’s most coveted trophy.
The United States, ranked No. 16, opens play Friday against Paraguay in Los Angeles. The Tampa Bay Rowdies will host a watch party at Al Lang Stadium.
