What began as a routine day for Key Biscayne residents quickly turned into a story of compassion and love at the Key Biscayne Community Garden.
A scruffy, flea-ridden and limping stray dog named Jack was discovered wandering the streets by Key Biscayne residents attending a retreat in Homestead. Recognizing his need for urgent care, Kerstin Eskeli, founder of Key Kindness, sprang into action. She helped capture him, soothed his aching leg with tender massages and gave him a much-needed bath.
Soon after, Jack was placed into the loving care of foster volunteer Karen Levison, who helped ease him back to home living.

Two weeks later, Karen brought Jack to a very special occasion: the Key Biscayne Community Garden’s one-year anniversary celebration, an event buzzing with laughter, music, and the snap of the camera from Islander News photographer Leo Quintana. Little did anyone know this would be the moment that changed everything.
Amid the garden’s vibrant blooms and cheerful festivities, Jack locked eyes with Leo and it was love at first sight. The connection was instant. Leo, captivated by the friendly and gentle dog, knew immediately that Jack was meant to be part of his family. Within days, he returned with his wife to meet Jack, and the chemistry was undeniable. What started as a lonely stray wandering the streets had blossomed into a lifelong bond and a family is finally complete.
Now, Jack has a forever home, a family that adores him and a story that reminds the community: sometimes, love and family appears in the most unexpected places, like a community garden filled with friends, flowers and new beginnings.
