Summer’s here, but schools are still active. 170 Miami-Dade and 69 Broward public schools are offering free breakfasts and lunches for kids 18 and under as a part of the state’s Summer BreakSpot program.
There’s no need to register and no income requirements.
The only stipulation, at least at Miami-Dade schools, is the meals must be eaten on campus, meaning they can’t be brought home.
The goal of the program – funded through the USDA – is to fill the hunger gap – making sure no child goes hungry – during the summer.
There are dozens of other BreakSpot locations available to kids including parks, libraries and non-profit organizations.
