Organizations across Tampa Bay want volunteers this month. Programs include teaching kids about ocean life and helping people without homes. You can find ways to help in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Largo.
St. Petersburg’s Marine Exploration Center needs people to chop up fish, toss meals to sea creatures, teach classes about the ocean, and scrub tanks. For more than 30 years, this group has brought mobile aquariums into classrooms and street fairs. You must be 16 or older. A background check is required, and you’ll attend training before starting. Most shifts last around three hours each week, with options on weekdays or weekends, per St. Pete Catalyst.com.
Hero To A Child plans its 3rd annual Adulting 101 Teen Conference on June 18 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the SPC Epicenter in Clearwater. This group has spent over 35 years changing lives for kids caught up in the child welfare system. Teens 14 and older can connect with resources as they prepare to leave foster care.
Three teams of volunteers are needed. A prep crew will stuff bags, laminate materials, and set up games on June 16 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. On June 18 from 8 until 11 a.m., a registration team will welcome attendees and check in participants. That afternoon from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., a support team will distribute lunch, assist speakers, and clean up after the event.
FS8 St. Petersburg hosts a donation-based Pilates class on June 20 at 12 p.m. The $20 class supports CASA, a domestic violence center that has worked in Pinellas County for over 40 years. A vendor pop-up and donation drive for the CASA Thrift Boutique kicks off at 10 a.m.
Largo Public Library conducts training for its English Language Learning program on June 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. Volunteers can handle paperwork or create four to six-week courses. The library asks for a six-month commitment.
Dinner and Duds for the Homeless serves hot meals every Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at 100 Mirror Lake Drive and St. Vincent DePaul Cares. Volunteers hand out food, toiletries, and clothes to those in need.
