Orlando Health East Region’s new volunteer program kicked off with a volunteer open house. The hospital welcomed guests to discuss future volunteer opportunities.

Attendees received an exclusive, first-hand look at the hospital, met with leadership and team members and enjoyed light refreshments while learning about volunteering opportunities at Orlando Health.

Jasmine Goldman, the Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital manager of volunteer and guest services, said that Orlando Health is “thrilled to welcome our community to celebrate the start of something new, meaningful, and rooted in compassion and service.”

The east coast’s budding volunteer program will support the hospital’s mission to improve the health and quality of life for individuals and communities. Working with the hospital will give volunteers the chance to form strong connections with the community, enhance hospital experiences and support Orlando Health in meaningful ways that have already been seen at Orlando Health in Orlando.

“We expanded the program from Orlando Health in Orlando,” said Kristi Powers, the media relations and public affairs manager. “And we’ve expanded it over to the east coast to include Melbourne and Sebastian.”

Whether you’re a student looking for volunteer hours or a retiree with time to spare, there’s plenty of things to do at Orlando Health.

“Volunteers will support areas such as Guest Services, Patient Transport, Surgical Waiting Areas, the Emergency Department and our inpatient floors,” Goldman said. “Providing a welcoming presence, assisting with wayfinding, offering comfort and reassurance, engaging with patients and families, and supporting the overall hospital experience through compassion and connection.”

Volunteers will receive training on HIPPA law and the different departments that they will be assisting.

Goldman added that the hospital plans to hold biannual volunteer open house events, with the next one scheduled for October.

Volunteer applications are accepted throughout the year. Potential volunteers can apply at orlandohealth.com/volunteer-services/east-region-volunteer-services.
