Tallahassee police increasing patrols, monitoring pop-up parties after recent shootings

  • June 9, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell says the department is increasing its efforts to address a recent rise in violent crime across the city.

Eight people have been shot in three separate shootings over the last five days, including a shooting early Monday morning.

Revell says the department is seeing more pop-up parties across Tallahassee, which he believes are contributing to many of the recent violent incidents.

Over the last month, Revell says three people have died, and 13 others have been injured in shootings across the city. He says eight of those shootings involved large crowds.

“It seems like the ones we are seeing now are happening almost instantaneously. Somebody posts something you know, everybody meet here, and within 30 minutes to an hour, the parking lot or the garage or the gas station is overrun with people,” Revell said.

The most recent shooting happened around 2 a.m. Monday outside Sharky’s Lounge, according to Tallahassee Police. Two men were injured.

Revell says the department is now increasing its efforts to track and respond to pop-up parties.

“There’s been a lot of innocent bystanders that have been hit when these shootings occur. So when they occur, what I can assure you is we’re going to find out who did it and we’re going to arrest them and bring them to justice,” Revell said.

The department is assigning additional officers to patrol for this specific purpose, particularly in the area around Sharky’s Lounge. Revell says officers are also monitoring social media for posts promoting pop-up parties and using drones to help monitor large gatherings.

“We’re using technology in the sense that our new drone program is kicking off in full gear. We’ll have drones out flying…over the summer to make sure that we’re monitoring these events and capturing, God forbid anything happens, capturing that on the video,” Revell said.

Revell says anyone who sees a large party taking place in a public space should contact Tallahassee Police immediately.
