FORT PIERCE – A 2-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool in a home in the 2600 block of Citrus Avenue, Fort Pierce, on June 7, according to Fort Pierce Police reports.
Officers responded to the home at about 2:42 p.m., in response to a call about a possible drowning.
Preliminary investigation revealed that while family members were inside the home, the 2-year-old child was able to unlock a door and leave the home unnoticed.
Upon realizing the child was missing, family members began searching the property and subsequently found the child unresponsive in a swimming pool.
Family members immediately began administering first aid until the arrival of Fort Pierce Police officers who began lifesaving steps, according to police reports.
The child was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, but the child later succumbed to his injuries, according to police reports.
The incident remains under investigation.
