The Girl Scouts of Citrus will introduce a new pilot program for the 2026 summer camp season.
If a camper struggles with sleepaway camps and homesickness, but still wishes to experience the wonders of summer camp, day camp is a great alternative.
“Our day camp program offers campers and their families an alternative to overnight camp,” said Lily Dechen, the public relations manager of the Girl Scouts of Citrus. “Day campers enjoy the same engaging camp experience as overnight campers in a shorter-day format.”
Campers will flourish in a safe and supportive environment at Camp Mah-Kah-Wee, located at 1700 S. County Road 419 in Chuluota in Seminole County. They will participate in a variety of experiences designed to build confidence, independence, leadership and various outdoor skills.
“Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place,” Dechen said. “This mission is foundational to our summer camp programming. Campers return home with a greater sense of self, meaningful new friendships, expanded skills, exciting experiences, a deeper appreciation for nature, and strengthened leadership and responsibility — along with memories that last a lifetime!”
Camp activities include swimming, canoeing, engaging in target sports, tackling the challenge course and learning more about the environment. Each week will include a field trip off-site.
Parents can register children in grades 2 through 12, as of Fall 2026, for summer camp. Sessions will vary based on grade level. Campers are welcome to attend even if they do not have an active Girl Scouts membership. Non-member participants will pay an additional $75 fee.
Week-long camp sessions will begin on June 8 with different sessions running throughout the summer. Overnight camp is $750 per session and day camp is $550 per session at Camp Mah-Kah-Wee. Overnight camp at Riverpoint is $1,000 a session.
