This Juneteenth, Central Florida will be celebrating culture, history and memory all month long. From Apopka to Kissimmee and everything in between, communities are coming together in the name of freedom.Here are 10 events for friends and family throughout the month of June.Saturday, June 13Juneteenth FestivalTime: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.Location: Kissimmee Lakefront Park, 201 Lakeview Drive, Kissimmee, 34741This celebration focuses on bringing neighbors together to commemorate the end of slavery and celebrate African American culture through live music, food, activities for kids and local vendors. Sunday, June 1411th Annual Juneteenth Celebration: Threads of Freedom — Memory, Resistance, and LegacyTime: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.Location: Crealdé School of Art, 642 W New England Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789The Crealdé School of Art is hosting a community arts workshop where visitors can participate in the historical tradition of quilting and listen to a panel discussion to learn about how quilting plays a role in Black culture and history. Friday, June 19Eatonville Juneteenth CelebrationTime: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Location: 307 East Kennedy Boulevard, Eatonville, FL 32751The historical town of Eatonville is hosting multiple events throughout the day, starting at 11 a.m. with the Juneteenth Youth Jam. Kids can participate in STEAM activities, contribute to community art, listen to local music and find local vendors. The event is open to all ages. The day ends at 6 p.m. with the Lift Every Voice Dinner Showcase. Community members will eat together while learning about the history of Black spirituals. Orlando, FL 32808The Love and Liberation event brings together LGBTQ+ pride and Juneteenth for a double celebration. This event will feature local Black and queer performers and vendors, drag shows and food trucks. Central Avenue, Apopka, FL 32703This parade starts of at the Apopka Community Center and makes it way down to Alonzo Williams Park. Floats in the parade are entered by community member themselves. The celebration will also feature food and merchant vendors from all cultural backgrounds.Juneteenth in Winter Park: Jazz & Jubilee A Night Under the StarsTime: 5 p.m.Location: Shady Park, 721 W New England Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789For the fourth year, the Jazz & Jubilee event will bring local Black musicians to perform for the community. The event will will also host SOKO Marketplace, where attendees can browse goods from Black-owned vendors. Although the even is free, spots are limited. So if you’re thinking of stopping by, make sure to reserve a spot ahead of time.
