MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — On Tuesday, Macon-Bibb County and the Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) celebrated the launch of Contour Airlines’ new nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale alongside the return of daily flights to Baltimore.
The inaugural flight ceremony took place inside the MCN terminal (1000 Terminal Dr) at 8:30 a.m.

“It’s been a long time coming and a long journey here,” Said Doug Flour, Director of Aviation for MCN. “When we look at our data to see where folks that reside in Middle Georgia travel, Fort Lauderdale is one of the top five destinations. Fort Lauderdale has a lot of great things to offer, and we have a lot of great things to offer Fort Lauderdale.”
Flour added that Baltimore is one of the top five destinations Middle Georgia Residents travel to as well, which is why Contour Airlines has officially brought back its popular nonstop service to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI).
“I’m here in Macon on business,” Said David Lucas, one of the passengers on the first flight to Fort Lauderdale Tuesday. “We have an annual meeting that begins in Fort Lauderdale at 3 p.m. today and goes until Friday, so this is very convenient… My wife and I have flown Contour before to Washington and Baltimore, so it’s a great flight, and we’re so happy to be on it.”

According to a release, Daily flights to Baltimore will run throughout the week, plus a second flight on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for extra flexibility.
Baltimore Morning Service (3x weekly):
MCN to BWI: 7:15 AM – 9:10 AMBWI to MCN: 9:45 AM – 11:45 AMDays operated: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Baltimore Afternoon Service (Daily):
MCN to BWI: 2:35 PM – 4:30 PMBWI to MCN: 5:05 PM – 7:15 PMDays operated: Daily
New flights to Fort Lauderdale will operate four times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for added travel flexibility.

“It’s not just for people in Macon to fly other places but for other people to come and enjoy what we enjoy each and every day,” Said Mayor Lester Miller. “I’m glad this provides another opportunity for people to fly over and see our community and see what we have for them…People coming to Macon, it’s going to be a regular thing. They’ve already started booking flights from Fort Lauderdale to Macon and vice versa…More people are becoming interested in Macon.”
The release also states that Contour Airlines will fly this route using a 30-seat regional jet built for comfort and reliability. Passengers will enjoy leather seats with extra legroom, plus complimentary snacks and drinks on every flight.
