JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The sounds of military tradition and patriotic pride will fill the air this weekend as one ENC town is set to host a community concert celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Stars, Stripes, and Sounds will take place on June 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jacksonville Commons Festival Grounds and feature a rare collaborative performance between the active-duty 2nd Marine Division Band and the Band of America’s Few, a nonprofit ensemble composed of veteran U.S. Marine Corps musicians.
The program will include the premiere of a newly commissioned piece, “Home of the Brave,” and conclude with John Philip Sousa’s iconic march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy food trucks and America 250-themed vendors throughout the evening.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Mark Pellon, Music Director of the 2nd Marine Division Band, joined ENC at Three to share more about the event. For the full interview, see the video link above.
Pellon says with current forecasts, there is a potential for the concert to be moved to the River of Life Church in Jacksonville. For more information on the event and location, click here.
