TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A majority of Leon County voters say arts and culture grants should stay in the hands of the Council on Culture and Arts (COCA) and not be transferred to the county government, according to a poll.
The survey, commissioned by COCA, included 353 registered voters reached by phone at the end of May.
When asked how important the arts are to the county, nearly 90% of people said “very” or “somewhat important.”
The survey comes amid discussion as the nonprofit arts organization is in danger of losing its independent control.
County staff is recommending moving COCA’s grants back under county control.
Leon County commissioners considered the transfer in early May, but instead voted to have a workshop later this month on the topic.
