ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — New beach restrictions are up for consideration in St. Pete Beach.
City leaders are looking at limitations that could impact visitors, locals and businesses.
The proposed ordinance could change what items and activities are allowed.
If approved, the new restrictions could include the following bans:
Smoking and vaping, excluding cigars
Leaving unattended fishing lines
Commissioners are also considering prohibiting fireworks on or over the beach. Additionally, the measure requires registration with the city for activities including:
The proposed tighter guidelines come just a few months after commissioners approved an increase in parking prices.
The new ordinance was up for a first reading during the commission meeting on June 9 but was pushed back after community members asked for more input.
Vice Mayor Lisa Robinson said it was postponed so that a community meeting could be held ahead of the first reading.
A new date has not yet been given.
