FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman in the Indian River Estates Community had a frightening encounter after a man broke into her home and assaulted her Wednesday morning.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office says that about 5:45 a.m., deputies responded to a burglary on Silver Oak Drive within the Indian River Estates Community. The sheriff’s office says its investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Kalani Gordon, allegedly entered the home and battered the woman before fleeing the area on foot.

The sheriff’s office says responding deputies established a perimeter and initiated a search of the area using a K-9 unit. During the search, deputies say they found a shotgun in a vacant lot across the street from the residence.
Gordon, 19, was later found at a nearby business, where he was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said.

Gordon faces charges of aggravated stalking, burglary with assault or battery, burglary of a dwelling while armed, fraud and abuse, armed trespassing in a structure or conveyance, and resisting an officer without violence. He is currently being held at the St. Lucie County Jail.
