STUART – Stuart Police released an update through its Facebook page on June 10 regarding an accident where a 24-year-old technician was killed at Atlantic Tire in the 700 block of Southeast Monterey Road, Stuart on June 9.
Investigation determined that an 83-year-old driver/owner of the vehicle was driving his truck into a service bay at the business at about 6:30 a.m., June 9.
As the driver drove onto a ramp to have the vehicle serviced, he accelerated forward, striking the technician and pinning him against a concrete wall, according to the most recent Facebook posting.
The technician, whose name has not yet been released, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Stuart Police detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Additionally, OSHA is conducting its own investigation, as the incident occurred in a workplace setting.
The business owners and staff fully cooperated with the investigation while also coping with the tragic loss of a valued employee, according to the Facebook posting.
“We appreciate their assistance during this difficult time. Our sincere condolences remain with the victim’s family, friends, coworkers, and all those affected by this tragedy,” the Stuart Police Department said in its posting.
