Tallahassee school zone speed cameras issued 44K+ tickets during 2025-26 school year

TPD: School speed cameras paused until August, tickets issued in May could still be coming

  • June 10, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Police Department says school speed zone cameras are off for the summer.

The cameras turned off after May 22 will stay off until the first day of school in August.

However, TPD is reminding drivers that tickets for violations in May could still be in the mail and arrive over the next few weeks. They also say that during the school year, the cameras are operating even when the lights aren’t flashing.

Ultimately, the cameras led to more than 44,000 violations this past school year, with about 40% still unpaid.

The speed enforcement cameras were made possible by House Bill 657, signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in May 2023.
