Come to the Hannibal Square Heritage Center this weekend to see the 11th annual Juneteenth exhibition Threads of Freedom: Memory, Resistance, and Legacy. Visitors Sunday will have the chance to participate in an arts workshop exploring the historic art of quilting, followed by a panel discussion about how the art has preserved history through visual storytelling.
Techniques of quilting in the African American community blend textile traditions from across Africa, continuing vivid storytelling traditions with intersecting histories. Materials will be provided for all to contribute to a quilt that will be displayed at the museum. Notable panelists include genealogist and historian Janice Gilyard and independent curator Keidra Daniels Navaroli.
