ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Police announced Wednesday that they arrested the person who crashed his car into a house, causing it to catch fire.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a Honda Accord crashed into a house on 14th Avenue South at 3 a.m. on Monday.

The people inside the home evacuated without injuries; however, police said the house and the parked vehicle were significantly damaged.

Video captured the driver of the Honda walking away from the scene after the crash.

SPPD initially reported that the vehicle was stolen sometime overnight from the 2100 block of 9th Avenue South. Officers clarified on Wednesday afternoon that the Honda belonged to a family member and was not stolen.

Detectives arrested Kendric Dennard Stephens, 37, for violation of probation, driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

Police did not share a potential cause for the crash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
