JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An Onslow County man is in jail after warrants say he broke into a motel and assaulted two police officers.

Jacksonville police arrested Cornelius Koonce Wednesday afternoon.

Warrants say the 47-year-old man broke into the Red Carpet Inn on Marine Boulevard.

While officers were investigating, warrants say Koonce was resisting two Jacksonville police officers by pulling away, tensing up and trying to run from them.

The documents go on to say that both officers had physical injuries.

Records show Koonce was carrying a pistol. He had been previously convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2006.

Koonce is charged with two counts of assault physical injury of law enforcement/probation/parole officer, resisting public officer, breaking or entering and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was booked into the Onslow County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
