TIERRA VERDE, Fla. (WFLA) — Community members are raising new concerns about redevelopment plans for Tierra Verde Marina. A group of residents filed an appeal to stop the changes.
In May, hundreds showed up in neon shirts at St. Petersburg City Hall to represent ‘Tierra Verde Next’ and voice worries about the project. Ultimately, the development review commission approved the plans.

Melanie Coleman Simon said, “It belongs in a warehouse, an industrial area, not a residential.” She’s a member of the group which is now working their way through the appeal process.
Documents recently filed in court say a pair of 72-foot-tall boat storage structures exceed the 50-foot height limitation for the area. Additionally, the appeal claims city leaders who approved the plans didn’t consider key issues relating to hurricane safety, structure integrity, noise and hours of operation.
Rick Kriseman, a spokesman for Greenleaf Capital, the company behind the overhaul says they’ve attempted to accommodate homeowners in the area. He describes, “There’s been a lot of changes that have been made to this plan for what was originally filed — and, and listening to what the community’s concerns were.”
A member of the Tampa-based company was not immediately available to comment on the appeal.
