A Jacksonville woman faces a handful of charges after police said she bailed from a still-running car, causing it to back into a pursuing police cruiser.
No one was injured and damage was minor to both vehicles, although both had to be towed, according to a police report.
Everything started about 11:59 p.m. Tuesday when a car went through a stop sign and also did not signal properly, according to police.
As an officer was conducting a traffic stop, the driver pulled into a driveway in the 600 block of Jordan Street. The officer pulled behind the car and got out, at which point the driver bolted from the vehicle, according to a police report.
As the driver ran, the car — which still was in motion — went into reverse and backed into the police cruiser, according to the report.
By this point, seven officers and a police canine had responded, according to police records.
After a short foot pursuit, Tesus L. Johnson, 29, of Jacksonville was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a peace officer, and reckless driving. She also was cited on charges of improper signaling and disobeying a stop sign, according to a police report.
