Cape Coral to raise flag of new 250 ft. flagpole at Bernice Braden Park on July 4

The City of Cape Coral will hold a ceremony on July 4 to raise the flag of their 250 ft. flagpole built to honor America’s 250th birthday.Starting at 2 p.m., the city says the ceremony will celebrate the completion of the city’s “community-funded effort to build the largest free-standing American Flagpole in Florida.” The event will be open to the public with no reservation required, and will culminate with the flag being raised for the first time.In a news release the city said the 250 ft. flagpole is being built to honor America’s 250th birthday and to stand as a lasting symbol of freedom, democracy and unity in Cape Coral.The project, first proposed by Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn, was approved by Cape Coral’s City Council in March. It was funded through community and private donations. City officials say fundraising is still short of the initial $500,000 goal.Construction of the flagpole started in the beginning of June and is expected to be completed by July 3.
