JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The City of Jacksonville named Deputy Police Chief Ashley Weaver as the Interim Police Chief.

Weaver was appointed by Jacksonville’s City Manager, Joshua Ray, and Weaver will begin her new role effective June 26.

“Deputy Chief Weaver has proven to be a strong leader throughout her career with the City of Jacksonville, Ray said. “We are excited for her to lead us through this time of transition and to continue the work that she and Chief Phelps started.”

Weaver began her career with the City of Jacksonville in 1998, and was promoted to Deputy Police Chief in 2018. Weaver earned a Masters Degree in Public Safety Leadership and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Chief of Police Jarad Phelps submitted his resignation and accepted the Chief of Police position for the City of Boca Raton in Florida.
