Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and active flames.
More than 15 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) units alongside the Florida Forest Service responded on Sunday, May 24, at 2:24 p.m., to a First Alarm grass fire near SW 120th Street and 137th Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and active flames. Due to the size of the fire and the need to protect nearby areas, the incident was upgraded to a Second Alarm, bringing in additional resources. Crews remained on scene, positioned around the fire perimeter to protect nearby structures and roadways while continuing suppression efforts.
There were intermittent road closures in the area due to ongoing fire operations, and residents were urged to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work safely. At this time, no injuries have been reported.
Residents nearby, especially those with respiratory conditions, were encouraged to remain indoors when possible, keep windows and doors closed, and set air conditioning systems in homes and vehicles to recirculate to help limit smoke exposure.
