Bridgette Gordon is never shy about her passion for women’s basketball.

And the fourth-year Florida A&M head coach and Tennessee Volunteers legend is doing her part.

Amidst the ever-growing popularity of the Women’s National Basketball Association and women’s college basketball, Gordon, a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee herself, will host a prospect camp and a weeklong ‘Future Rattler’ skills camp on FAMU’s campus in June.

“It’s something that the community wanted, and the surrounding high school and middle schools can get in here,” Gordon told the Tallahassee Democrat. “They’re going to get good coaching and development, and once they go back, they can retain it.”

The prospect camp is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m., for eighth graders through high school seniors. The youth camp, for first to seventh graders, runs from June 23 to June 26, with 9 a.m. starts also.

Both camp fees are $90 and open to boys and girls. They will be held at the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Jake Gaither Gymnasium. The point of contact is Ronald Foxx, director of women’s basketball operations, at Ronald.Foxx@FAMU.edu.

“It’s just about giving back and letting them have some fun and giving to the young ladies that I can support now,” Gordon said of how the summer camps can assist the FAMU women’s basketball program.

Gordon’s camps could lead to endless possibilities, especially for standout prospects. Last August, Alabama-based high school girls basketball star Kristen ‘KJ’ Johnson left Tallahassee with an offer from FAMU after catching the Rattler coach’s attention for her bucket-getting and sharpshooting.

The Hazel Green High School standout then played her senior year, averaging 17 points and leading the Trojans to an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state title. The guard was named the Alabama Sports Writers’ Association’s 6A Player of the Year, and in April, she signed her national letter of intent to join ‘Coach Pressure’s’ Rattlers for the 2026-2027 season.

“I pride my ability to develop,” Gordon said. “You’ve got to have an eye for talent. I’m glad I had the eye.”

FAMU expects 40-50 prospects to be on campus this weekend, with an emphasis on local players and potential participation from those in surrounding states such as Georgia and Tennessee. For the ‘Future Rattler’ camp, Gordon plans to have 100 kids, up from 70 when she hosted in 2025.

Current players will assist the coaching staff in hands-on training with the campers.

“I want it to be intimate and reach the young people. That’s so important as I watch the game and want to grow the game,” Gordon said. “It starts with them.”
