The Celtics‘ pursuit of Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo seems exactly real at the moment, and even Miami sports reporter Ira Winderman thinks Boston could be on the inside track to bring in Antetokounmpo.

“I think Boston is not only back in, but Milwaukee right now is trying to find a third team for Jaylen Brown. It’s very real,” Winderman said Friday on “The Joe Rose Show” about the Celtics pursuing Antetokounmpo.

There has been a lot of smoke about the Celtics trading for Antetokounmpo after Bill Simmons’s comments on Wednesday night.

“I thought Boston was out of this. I know Boston was out of this,” Simmons said. “And I was wondering if they were playing possum or not. I think they were playing a little possum. I think they’re in on Giannis. I think Boston is not ruling out the idea. I thought they were sitting out this Giannis thing, and I no longer think that.”

Over the past month, it seemed likely that Antetokounmpo would end up in Miami. The Celtics appeared hesitant to break up their duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Still, things could have changed after watching Spurs center Victor Wembanyama dominate the NBA playoffs.

Since Wembanyama is 7-foot-4, the Celtics probably think the only way to compete with him is by having an elite big man, which is what Antetokounmpo could bring to the table.
