TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Lemonade stands popped up across Tallahassee Saturday as children took part in Lemonade Day, a nationwide program designed to teach young people the basics of entrepreneurship.
Participants ranged from kindergarten through 12th grade, with some as young as 3 years old operating their own stands.
According to Lemonade Day Tallahassee City Director Rashada Turner, the program teaches children how to start, own and operate a business while learning skills such as budgeting, setting profit goals, marketing and customer service.

“Entrepreneurship is at the foundation of economic wealth and in these days, survivorship,” Turner said. “It’s important for them to learn how to earn their own money and even if they go into corporate, or into non-profit, economics are at the basics of it.”
Turner said this year’s event expanded beyond Tallahassee with a lemonade stand in Bainbridge. Organizers plan to hold another Lemonade Day event in the fall.
