Colombian citizens living in the Miami area will need to head to a new location to cast their ballots in the country’s presidential runoff election, and the change came at the last minute.
The Colombian Consulate in Miami announced last week that, by order of the city of Coral Gables, the original voting site has been moved. The new location: the Watsco Center at the University of Miami, at 1245 Dauer Dr., Coral Gables, FL 33146.
Early voting runs from June 15 through June 21, with polls open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time. Voters registered at the Miami-Consulado polling site must also cast their ballots at the University of Miami location on Sunday, June 21.
The runoff pits right-wing political outsider Abelardo de la Espriella against left-wing senator Iván Cepeda. De la Espriella won the first round on May 31 with 43.7% of the vote, while Cepeda earned 40.9%. The winner is set to take office on Aug. 7.
De la Espriella is a far-right lawyer who has modeled his candidacy after leaders such as Argentine President Javier Milei. He has run on a hardline security platform and recently received an endorsement from U.S. President Donald Trump. Cepeda, a senator from the ruling Historic Pact party, has pledged to continue the agenda of outgoing President Gustavo Petro.
Petro is constitutionally barred from seeking a second term.
