TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M women’s basketball head coach Bridgette Gordon hosted a basketball camp at the Lawson center on Saturday for talented young athletes, some of whom could be future Rattlers.
Twenty-five to 30 local girls from Florida and its surrounding states ranging from eighth graders up to seniors in high school got to show their talents and learn from a college coach. Each already have tons of basketball potential, allowing Gordon a chance to see some of the best young local players in the area.
She emphasized the importance of keeping the camp small, so she could spend time with each player.
But this is not just a way for the Rattlers head coach to share her basketball expertise. From this camp, Gordon is able to offer scholarships to five, potentially more, of these athletes.
“I get two for one. I get to see them, they get to see campus and it’s very intamate. I can put them true drills myself, and myself and some of my players. They were like ‘coach, I like this group.’” said Gordon. “I want to be able to put my handprint and my legacy on young people, in teaching them the right way to play basketball. So this year, I started this camp for that reason.”
