St. Lucie County residents now know for sure who is running in upcoming elections.
Candidates who qualified by the noon June 12 deadline now have until Aug. 18 for primary campaigns and Nov. 3 for the General Election to make their case to voters. Those who qualified without opposition were automatically elected or reelected.
Forty two candidates qualified to run in 14 races in St. Lucie County.

Florida is a “closed primary” state; only those registered to a particular party can vote during that party’s primary election. However, a race becomes an “open primary,” where all registered voters can cast a ballot, if all of the qualifying candidates are of the same party. In the latter case, the primary becomes the general election.
Key races for this year’s elections in St. Lucie County include two County Commission seats, Port St. Lucie mayor, two Port St. Lucie City Council seats, two Fort Pierce City Commission seats and three School Board seats. Also on the ballot will be two races for Florida House of Representatives, a race for the U.S. House of Representatives and statewide races for U.S. Senate, governor and more.
