At Ultra Mundane Gallery (1750 Central Ave), materials like duct tape and sandpaper are about to take center stage in a new solo exhibition from St. Pete artist Vincent Ricottilli. The opening reception for Held Together takes place Friday, June 19, from 5-9 pm, featuring pieces that turn the overlooked into something unexpected.

Not your average medium

Held Together showcases art that feels less like something to admire from a distance and more like something you can connect with up close. The show leans into texture and experimentation, as Ricottilli creates work using reclaimed wood, construction remnants, spray paint, and other found materials.

His work doesn’t just look different; it’s built on a different idea of what art can be. Instead of polished, traditional materials, he leans into what’s already out there, creating art that feels approachable and playful. 

Inspired by the idea that the “world is open for play,” Held Together highlights curiosity and experimentation, encouraging viewers to see potential in the everyday (and maybe rethink what counts as art in the first place).

Up close and personal

Ricottilli encourages visitors to engage with his work, stepping away from the usual hands-in-your-pockets gallery experience. Held Together is designed to be tactile and interactive, with detailed, layered surfaces that invite a closer look and touch. 

For him, art is a way to share ideas, emotions, and discoveries gathered from the world around him. That mindset carries throughout the show, making it feel less like a one-way presentation and more like a quiet conversation between artist and audience.
