Two Florida Highway Patrol troopers from Broward County were hospitalized Monday with serious injuries after a major crash on Florida’s Turnpike.
FHP officials said a silver agency truck towing a trailer was being followed by a marked FHP cruiser when the trailer became disabled by a flat tire near Northwest 106th Street in Miami-Dade County.
FHP officials said that after both troopers pulled to the shoulder to deal with the issue, the driver of a black Cadillac SUV veered off the roadway and hit the marked cruiser, injuring a trooper who was standing near the trailer and another who was inside the cruiser.
FHP spokeswoman Indiana Miranda said the injuries to both troopers were serious but not life-threatening. She did not release the troopers’ names.
“Please keep our troopers and their families in your thoughts as they continue their recovery,” Miranda said.
On-air personality Mobile Mike noted on X: “They started their morning like every other day, putting on the badge, leaving their families behind, and heading out to protect complete strangers on the road. In a matter of seconds, everything changed. … Our thoughts are with these injured Florida Highway Patrol troopers, their families, and every officer who risks their life to protect others.”
