Alcoa football receiver Jamir Dean has flipped his commitment to Georgia from Penn State.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Dean initially committed to Penn State on May 1, but received an offer from Georgia shortly after on May 6. He had an official visit in Athens on May 29 and built a strong relationship with receivers coach James Coley.

“They showed me a lot,” Dean told Knox News on June 15. “It opened my eyes, and I just realized it’s somewhere I want to be…. When (Coley) started recruiting me, we just got closer and closer, day by day. It’s also not just Coley helping the wide receivers. There were two or three other wide receivers that played for him that are out there helping you, running routes with you. That also played a big role.”

Dean is a four-star recruit as the nation’s No. 257 overall prospect, the No. 36 wide receiver and the No. 12 overall prospect in Tennessee by the 247Sports Composite.

He had 53 catches for 1,141 yards and 16 touchdowns as the leading receiver during Alcoa’s run to its 11th consecutive TSSAA football state championship, and the school’s first in Class 4A.

Dean also won state titles in basketball and track as the anchor of the Tornadoes’ 4×100-meter relay team.

Dean said he didn’t expect to commit as early as he did to Penn State when he first announced. After flipping his decision, though, he wouldn’t have changed how he handled the process.

“There’s no regrets,” he said about committing to Penn State early. “I still like Penn State, there’s nothing wrong there.”

The Nittany Lions also had a four-star receiver in its 2027 class in Landon Blum, the top prospect in Iowa.

Dean becomes Georgia’s 15th commitment and second wide receiver commitment, joining three-star prospect Taurean Rawlins from Atlanta.
