JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars held the first day of the final week of 2026 Organized Team Activities at the Miller Electric Center Monday.
Four Jaguars media members – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and correspondent John Shipley – shared an observation following practice. Here they are:
Oehser: The end of the offseason is near, with this final week of ’26 OTAs taking on a somewhat lighter – “passing camp” – feel. Head Coach Liam Coen set the tone on Monday, bringing in multiple former NFL and Jaguars players such as former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew – as well as NFL alumni such as wide receiver A.J. Green, and defensive backs Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty – to add energy to the final voluntary practice days before the five-week break between the offseason and 2026 Training Camp. Monday’s day had a similar theme to much of the offseason program, with Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking positively of the work done and the focus exhibited from players and coaches throughout the past two months of offseason work. This feels like a team that has worked efficiently and productively in recent weeks, which is as expected from a group in Year 2 of a regime. Jaguars ’26 training camp is scheduled for late July. That’s when the pads go on, the hitting starts and the real stuff begins. So far, so good.
Sexton: There has been a consistent energy level around the Jaguars’ on-field work this spring. Obviously, a big part of that is that the players know what’s expected and what they’re doing in their second year with Coen and Co. More than that, this looks like a team with very high expectations of itself. They know they’re good, maybe as good as any team in the AFC, and they want to take advantage of the moment. Coaches like to talk about “being where your feet are,” and this team has the appearance of a team that is focused on being better, doing more and going farther than they did last year. It’s a feeling you get when watching Lawrence coaching a young group of running backs during a drill or the intensity with which defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, linebacker Foyesade Oluokun and defensive end Travon Walker work on every single bag drill. My first observation from a few weeks back was that this looked like a really good team, and I’ll end the OTA observations with the idea that they know it, and they don’t want to miss their opportunity to be more than good. I’m as excited about this team as I have been in a long time; it just feels different.
