So you want to ride Universal Epic Universe‘s most popular ride? Well, I’ve got some advice for you!
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is located inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. It’s largely acknowledged as the “best” ride in the park, but the fact that it’s the most popular can’t be refuted. It often gets multi-hour waits! After doing it ourselves countless times, there are some things we wish we’d known before we rode it for the first time.
The Queue Is Jammed With Details
Seriously, you guys, this might be the best ride queue on planet earth…and it is SLAMMED with hidden details. As you’re waiting in line, make sure to read the posters on the walls and the papers on desks to see if there are any fun nods to characters and events from the Harry Potter books and films.
Queue for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
You’ll pass through several rooms that are replicas of the Ministry of Magic in the films, and you’ll even get to see spaces like Dolores Umbridge’s office, the Auror locker room, and the room filled with portraits of old Ministers for Magic. It’s a Harry Potter fan’s dream come true.
Express Pass Skips Part of the Ride Plot
If you’re using Express Pass in Universal Orlando, you often skip part of the queue to get a shorter wait. For Battle at the Ministry, one of the spots you skip is Dolores Umbridge’s office, which kind of functions as the ride’s pre-show.
Umbridge’s Office with Higgeldy!
Here, you meet her house elf, Higgeldy, who shows up later in the story. If you don’t go through this room, you might be scratching your head a little bit during the ride.
The Single Rider Queue Is Iffy
We have mixed opinions about the single rider queue for this ride. Some on our team love it, while others have had bad experiences using it. But here’s the truth — you’ll probably wait a really long time in it…but it’ll likely still be shorter than the actual posted wait time for the ride.
Since the waits for this ride are SO long, it stands to reason that the single rider wait will be long too. The queue itself is pretty darn boring for single riders, and you might just be standing still for an hour or more. It can also close if Team Members determine that it has hit capacity.
There Are Bathrooms in the Queue
Since the ride has such a long wait, it’s a really good thing that there are bathrooms in the queue! You’ll find them near the family room, located next to the lifts. They’re just before the last room you arrive in to board the ride.
They’re definitely closer to the end of the queue than the beginning, so if you feel the urge to go, please do it before you get in line! Trust us, you don’t want to wait two hours with the urge to pee.
It’s Better NOT to Rope Drop
While rope dropping this ride (hopping on it first thing when the park opens) is a good strategy, it may not be the BEST strategy. Over many months of watching the wait times at Epic Universe, we’ve found that the wait time for this ride is at its highest in the morning, typically dropping as you get into the afternoon.
This means that if you wait until 3 PM or 4 PM (or even 7 PM or 8 PM) to ride, you could find yourself with a much shorter wait. We’ve often seen it drop down to half an hour in the last hour of the park’s operation for the day.
It Can Cause Motion Sickness
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is part motion simulator, part dark ride, and if you’re sensitive to screens or motion simulators, it may cause some sickness. There are a decent number of screens in the attraction.
Seats on Battle of the Ministry
This one is kind of a mixed bag because some folks who easily get motion sick have described this ride as causing them no problems whatsoever, while some others had to ride the entire time with their eyes closed. Maybe prepare yourself ahead of time with your preferred choice of motion sickness relief, just in case.
It Can Hit Capacity and Close Early
Now, we did say to do this ride later in the day, but that comes with a warning. If the wait time is high and the line is long, Team Members can close Battle at the Ministry early so that the ride doesn’t have to stay open super late at night to accommodate everyone.
We’ve seen 300 minutes for Battle at the Ministry before!
This was a bit more common in the early days of its operation, but it happens occasionally. Just take stock of the wait time, and if it looks particularly long all day (we’re talking in the multi-hour range), then it’s a good idea to just bite the bullet and wait it out mid-afternoon instead of risking it closing later in the evening.

We highly recommend checking out this ride — it’s popular for a reason! Universal really outdid itself with this one.
