MIAMI, Okla. — Authorities are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting at the welcome center near Miami, OK.

According to police, officers were notified of a possible stolen vehicle traveling west on the Will Rogers Turnpike from Joplin around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The vehicle was located near the welcome center at exit 313. Miami officers responded to assist. 

Police say a man inside the vehicle produced a weapon which led to the officer-involved shooting. Exit 313 eastbound and Exit 1 westbound is closed at this time.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will be handling the investigation. Miami Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
