TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. — Temple Terrace city leaders are negotiating with two developers on plans to transform two vacant lots on 56th Street into a more centralized downtown area with new places for people to gather and shop.

The plans include more shops, a rooftop bar and new restaurants, according to renderings presented by one of the developers. City council members still have to vote on the plans and whether to move forward with the developers.

Council member Alison Fernandez said the project is aimed at bringing new energy and investment to the city. The goal is to “energize the area, attract families, attract people, to serve as an economic investment in the city,” she said.
Nearby business owners said they hope the development will bring more foot traffic to the area.
Parag Shah opened Qi Foot Massage last month. He said he saw a need in the community for a place where people can relax.
“This is a good place to open,” Shah said. “You have exposure, and people will come, and people do come.”
Shah said he has had some returning customers, but he hopes new development will bring in a wider clientele.
“Let everyone come here,” Shah said.
Ahd Hamdam, owner of Aker Sweets, said the area already draws a nightlife crowd, and he hopes new businesses will build on that momentum.
“Any new business will be an added value to the plaza and to this area, too,” Hamdam said.
Business owners said they want to see the area grow and are on board with being part of the change.
The city does not have an exact date for when council members will vote on the plans, but officials said they hope both projects are completed in the next two years.
