Fort Myers City Council approved $150,000 for the city’s annual Arts & Culture Grant Program at its June 15 meeting, with funding to be distributed among 20 local organizations and individuals selected from 47 applicants.
A four-member committee recommended the highest-scoring projects based on criteria including necessity, community benefit and cost-effectiveness.
The following organizations each received $8,000 grants: Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida, ArtFest Fort Myers, Edison Park Creative and Expressive Arts School, Florida Repertory Theatre, Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, Holiday House and Stroll of Fort Myers, The Laboratory Theater of Florida, Alliance for the Arts, LARC, RDA (ArtWalk), Fort Myers Mural Society, Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center, All Veterans Memorial, Fort Myers Philharmonic, Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Arts for ACT Gallery, Community Cooperative and Theatre Conspiracy. Israel Coover received a $1,000 grant, while SWFL Writers and Creatives received $5,000.
