A resolution granting the village authority to use Ocean Club Community Association property for a potential pump station, backup generator and electrical platform, part of Key Biscayne’s ongoing flood mitigation project, was approved unanimously, 6-0, at the June 10 Village Council meeting, though not without pushback over the scale of the proposed infrastructure.
The resolution was to allow the installation of a pump station, backup generator and electrical platform for the Village’s flood mitigation project,
“This is just something we’ve worked out with the Ocean Club (in case a generator is necessary),” Mayor Joe Rasco said. “You will have a shot (at a later vote) if the generator goes there or doesn’t go there.”
Councilman Fernando Vazquez didn’t see the need for it.
“I have an issue with massive structures,” he said. “Let’s look at this very carefully, very cautiously.”
Fellow Council member Nancy Stoner said, “It just gives us the authority, if we’d choose to go that path, which remains to be determined.”
Added Vazquez, “Let’s understand we’re not an industrial facility here.”
