NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 95 near State Road 200 in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash caused traffic backups on I-95 North for hours.
According to the crash report, troopers say the motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-95 when it struck the rear of a van. The impact caused the motorcycle to lose control and overturn.
The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a guardrail on the inside shoulder. Nassau County Fire Rescue pronounced the rider dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, an 81-year-old man from Jupiter, Florida, and his 78-year-old female passenger, also from Jupiter, were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
