Brush fire briefly slows traffic on I-95 northbound in Palm City

PALM CITY, Fla. (CBS12 ) — Martin County Fire Rescue crews extinguished a small brush fire Monday afternoon along Interstate 95 northbound in Palm City.

According to Martin County Fire Rescue, dispatchers received calls just after noon reporting visible smoke and flames near the interstate.

Firefighters responded quickly and knocked down the blaze before it could spread onto I-95.

Officials said the fire burned about a quarter of an acre.

Multiple agencies remained on scene Monday directing traffic while crews monitored the area for hot spots. Drivers were advised to expect delays in the area.

The fire comes a day after firefighters fought a 115-acre brush fire in Palm City.

Sunday’s fire broke out near Newfield Boulevard and Southwest Citrus Boulevard and is now 100% contained. The Florida Forest Service said they were continuing to monitor the area overnight and into Monday.

Officials with Martin County Fire Rescue say early reports indicate lightning sparked the blaze.
