Leon County Schools to close all high school tracks and fields to public ‘for the foreseeable future’

  • June 18, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – All high school tracks and fields will close to the public “for the foreseeable future” beginning Saturday, according to the Leon County Schools.

“This includes tracks that were previously open to the public at Leon and Chiles high schools,” LCS wrote in a social media post Thursday morning.

The news comes just nine months after the school district announced that the tracks at the two high schools would reopen on September 20 of last year.

At that time, LCS had also revealed that new security cameras were installed at both school tracks to enforce operating hours and to prevent vandalism.
