A storm-driven wind gust flipped a semitractor-trailer Wednesday on East Morton Avenue, causing minor injuries to the driver.
The truck was going west on East Morton Avenue and was blown over onto its passenger side about 6:28 p.m. near Mobil Road, according to a Jacksonville Police report.
A band of severe thunderstorms was moving through the area at that time, with wind gusts peaking at 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Driver Major Becton Jr., 52, of Florissant, Missouri, was taken to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital for treatment of what police said were minor injuries.
Becton was driving for Hub Group Trucking of Indianapolis, according to police. Bill’s Towing had to remove the truck because of the extent of damage.
Although portions of Pike and Brown counties were briefly under a tornado warning Wednesday evening, most of the Jacksonville area escaped with only scattered reports of wind damage.
Other parts of the state were not as fortunate, though. The National Weather Service said there were at least five tornadoes, with Blue Mound, Charleston and Effingham especially hard hit.
