A 38-year-old Hobe Sound man walking along State Road A1A in Fort Pierce was struck by two vehicles and died, Florida Highway Patrol said Thursday. The crash was reported at 11:57 p.m. Wednesday near North Third Street at A1A, renamed Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway. The crash was near Treasure Coast International Airport. A 2020 Toyota Prius, driven by a 60-year-old man from Vero Beach, was traveling north in the outside lane of State Road A1A approaching North Third Street, FHP told WPBF. The pedestrian was improperly walking south in the northbound outside lane, also approaching North Third Street, FHP said. The pedestrian failed to move from the travel lane as the Prius approached. The front left corner hit the man in the outside lane. He was propelled onto the hood and into the windshield. The pedestrian stayed on the car for several feet before rolling off into the roadway, FHP said. As he was lying in the roadway, an unknown vehicle approaching in the inside lane drove over the top of his legs and continued traveling north. The victim was taken to nearby HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital and was pronounced deceased. The Prius driver was uninjured, FHP said. A 2020 Toyota Prius, driven by a 60-year-old man from Vero Beach, was traveling north in the outside lane of State Road A1A approaching North Third Street, FHP told WPBF.

The pedestrian was improperly walking south in the northbound outside lane, also approaching North Third Street, FHP said.
