PORT ST. LUCIE – Local breast cancer awareness and support group The St. Lucie Trailblazers was the beneficiary of a pop-up market recently. Hosted by Lakeview Bar & Grille at St. Lucie Trails Golf Club, the event featured local vendors, many of them crafters.
Shoppers browsed hand-painted glassware, homemade breads, custom door wreaths, whimsical socks, and jewelry of all types. A variety of pink drinks were available from the bar for purchase.
The Florida Mobile Mammography Bus was on site performing mammograms. A total of 11 women were screened at the event.
St. Lucie Trailblazers is a group of women, many of whom have had breast cancer themselves or have been a caregiver of a breast cancer victim. They are dedicated to helping others by raising awareness of screening and early detection options.
Gail Moore, co-founder of the organization, was grateful for the event. “We were so pleased with the turn-out for this event. It was completely created and organized by Kim Ross, general manager of the Lakeview Bar & Grille. She contacted all the vendors and set everything up. She’s always supported our organization and we truly appreciate everything she does for us.”
Moore said that every vendor either gave cash to the organization or donated something for their raffle basket. The event raised nearly $1,000.
Moore is currently putting together a support group for those going through breast cancer treatment. “The group will be a judgment free zone, a safe place to talk about anything. We even have a nurse navigator if we have questions. We want to find out what the needs are for each individual and see if we can help them.”
