TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A crucial lifeline for families during the summer months kicked off Thursday in Tallahassee.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend is teaming up with state and national partners to ensure local children do not go hungry while school is out. Organizations like No Kid Hungry Florida and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are joining the effort.
Families and community partners gathered Thursday for the annual Summer Meal Kickoff event from 11 to noon at the Woodville Branch Library.

This year, a new grant from No Kid Hungry Florida will allow Second Harvest to purchase equipment to produce its own fresh meals for the very first time.
The program specifically targets children in rural and hard-to-reach communities who lose access to daily school breakfasts and lunches.
