The Univ. of Miami is without an AD after the retirement of Dan Radakovich on June 1, but the school is willing to wait to fill the role until it finds the proper person. UM President & CEO Joe Echevarria appeared on Miami-based WQAM-FM on Wednesday and said, “I’m in no hurry. There’s lots of people who want that role, but it’s got to be the right person for the future of college sports.” Former Florida Panthers President Michael Yormark has been rumored as a front-runner for the position. Echevarria did not address any specific candidate, but listed what the school is looking for. He said, “We really need a forward thinking leader. But that leader has to have real commercial experience, especially in media, media rights, revenue, innovation. Now they’ve got to be deeply committed to excellence and student development, but they’ve also got to be able to honor the storied brand of the U and build upon the legacy to lead us into the next era of college athletics” (“The Joe Rose Show,” WQAM-FM, 6/17).
