PORT ST. LUCIE – A 49-year-old Port St. Lucie man riding an electric scooter was killed on Oct. 31 at about 5:45 a.m., when he was struck by a car in the crosswalk at Southeast Crosstown Parkway in Port St. Lucie, according to police reports.

The man was headed north on Southeast Sandia Drive through the crosswalk when a 2021, four-door Mercedes headed west on Southeast Crosstown Parkway struck the scooter on the outside lane, throwing the rider off the scooter, according to police reports.

The rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to St. Lucie Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

The male driver of the Mercedes was not injured and is cooperating with police, according to police reports.

Police have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
